(Revision 2 – 12/22/06)
1)
Select Image > Image Size from the
menu, clear the Resample checkbox, and set the output resolution to 100 dpi and
click OK. Make sure there is a check
mark in the “Constrain Proportions” check box.
Make sure there is a check mark in the “Resample Image” check box. For “Pixel Dimensions”, set the value for the
larger dimension to be ‘768’ or less. The value for the smaller dimension should
automatically change to the proper proportion.
Click on “OK.”
Please NOTE the
following when setting the image size in PhotoShop:
1. The first step must be setting the resolution
to “100 pixels/inch.” Tim Grey said on 11/30/04:
"The resolution depends upon the
digital projector you'll be using. The actual dpi resolution doesn't truly
matter since we're just talking about pixel dimensions and the pixels on the
projector are of a fixed size. However, PowerPoint doesn't size the images
properly unless you have them at an appropriate dpi resolution.”
2. Set the longest dimension to ‘768
pixels.’ The other dimension will be 768
or less – and probably will be somewhere around 512. (A person could have a square image: 768 x 768, which is legal.) If you do this in reverse order, the pixel
dimension will change resulting in the wrong image size.
You will then need to set the sRGB Color Space:
Select Image >
Mode > Convert to Profile, set the profile to sRGB, and click OK.
Name and save
your file using the following format:
Division – Class
– Club – Last Name First Name – Title of File – JPG
No hyphens or underscores are allowed
except if needed in the image title:
CG BE WOC Smith Joseph Black-capped
Chickadee.jpg

Abbreviations: MG – Monochrome

Last Name – First Name: Smith Joe
Please - no middle initials and be
consistent – do not use Joe Smith one
time and then Joseph Smith another.
Choose either Joe or Joseph.
Title of File: The file name can use hyphens
if necessary, for instance,
Black-capped Chickadee. Do
NOT use any symbols or special characters, including “#” or “/” or “\” or any
others in your file name. There are a
lot of “/” used for dates in slide names and “#” used for #1, #2, #3, etc. However, since the PC and the web server use
these “symbols” to signify a subdirectory and the “#” will definitely cause the
web server to truncate file names at the “#” sign, you will have to find
another way of naming your files.
Instead of Blue Bird #1 – make it Blue Bird 1. If the maker uses a date in their file,
perhaps 093005 or 09302005 would work for 9/30/05.
Use
only spaces between your words in your file name:
MG
BE WOC Smith Joseph Black-capped Chickadee.jpg
CG
BE MCC Smythe Dennis Blue Bird 1.jpg
Save the image as a JPEG File Format with a quality setting of 10
or 12 – whichever is available – and each file should not exceed 400 KB.

As the Digital Projection Director of your club, you will be
responsible for sending files in the correct format. If they are not correct, they will not be
used; therefore, you will need to open each one and check that it is sized
properly. You will also need to check
the maker’s name, be sure everything is spelled correctly with the proper
formatting before emailing to the GDCCC Digital Projection Director. Please note:
Only the Digital Projection
Director of each club may send files – not each club member – to the GDC
DPD Director.
Email your files to the GDCCC DPD Director at dpd@gdccc.org,
Each club can send 9 Monochrome General, 9 Color General, 9 Color Creative and 9 Nature images per
competition. However, only one Joseph
Smith can be entered into each group of nine per competition.
When emailing your files, use the subject line as:
DPD Competition – Your Club Name – Date of
Competition
All entries must be emailed to dpd@gdccc.org no later than midnight on the deadline date posted on the InterClub Competition Schedgule before the competition
along with a note advising the GDC Digital Projection Director how many files
of each division are attached. The GDC Digital Projection Director will
in turn email each club director confirming the number of files received for
each GDCCC Digital Projection competition.
See “Attachment 4 - “Official Scheduled Interclub Digital Projection
Competition Rules” for more information on Rules.
