·         GDCCC Constitution

·         Darrell Gulin Seminar Flier

Officers’ Report:

·         Secretary: The minutes from the December 5, 2001 meeting were reviewed and approved.

·         Treasurer: The Treasurer reported a balance of $1,915.00 Banquet attendance was better than expected and expenses were well covered with 171 attendees.

Directors’ Report:

·         Nature – Next competition February 28th at West Oakland Camera Club.  Club Nature Directors are requested to please ensure that slides have club name on them.

·         Newsletter – Should be printed around the end of February.

·         Website – Should be finished copying slides from year-end by next week.  Individual clubs can have their own site linked to the council site.  Email John Kroll to set up the links.

Seminars:

·         Darrell Gulin: The seminar is set for May 18 & 19, 2002 at the Southfield Civic Center Room.  Arrangements were made for mailing out the fliers and distributing to the local camera stores.  Any suggestions for locations to place fliers will be good.  It is necessary to have good council member support for this seminar.  There will be a lot of tips and tricks for improving our photographic skills.  Bill Buchanan has agreed to produce a promo slide for clubs to include in their competitions to promote this seminar.

·         Dennis Cox: Travel photographer will be at Motor City February 25th at 7:00 pm.  An excellent speaker, all are welcome to join the club meeting on 14 mile rd, 1/3 mile east of Lahser on the north side at Nativity Episcopal Church, parking is in the rear.

Old Business:

·         2002 Banquet: Livonia discussed positive feedback from the banquet.  The site was very welcoming.  Motor City will host next year’s banquet.  Livonia will be responsible for creating notes from the learnings gathered this year to pass on to Motor City.  Loretta Williams also has some sample information from previous years to include in the notes.

o        It was noted that the host club should make sure to include a photographer to cover all the award winners.

o        Banquet programs should also be proofed by at least 2 people to reduce number of errors and omissions.

o        Honorees should receive invite and ticket before they are approached for door prizes.  Probably as soon as we have date and location chosen.

o        Council Honor awards should include a record of their accomplishments

o        Major trophies should have history included in program and placed on the website.

o        Make sure clubs are given heads up of award recipients to try to ensure that more winners attend the banquet.

o        Passing out trophies first and then showing the slide show seems to have moved more smoothly than in the past.  It was suggested that possibly all the slides that were in contention for a major trophy, be shown before the awarding of the trophy.

o        It was suggested that all 1st place and major trophy winners be photographed digitally to be placed on website.

·         Finances in the Council: Committee needs to meet.

·         Competition Schedules:  Have been resolved

·         Next Meeting:  Scheduled for Tuesday March 26th.

New Business:

·         Clarification of Rules:  Commercial Print – can be made of a scanned slide (not manipulated) as long as the print is made commercially.

·         New Determination for Print classes:  a revision of the Color Print and Commercial Print classes was proposed by Doug Locke.  It was determined that Doug should bring proposed wording for this proposal to the next board meeting before asking members to vote on the proposal.

·         PSA Exhibition: Andy Wims said the selection of judges for the competition was moving along and should be wrapped up by the end of February.  Exhibition dates are being determined.  Changes to the entry form were significant this year due to PSA standards.  Last year it was not understood that there is no distinction between digital and non-digital.  You cannot do things with your image that you could not do with your camera.

o        Nature prints – entered in the Nature Division Category can be dark room, commercial or digital.  Up to 4 prints can be entered.  Nature Prints can also be entered in Color Print.

o        Color Slide – You will be able to enter 4 slides in either Color slide open and/or color slide creative

o        Nature Slide – has Nature Open Category and Nature Authenticated Wildlife Category so maker could enter total of 8 slides.  In the nature category the maker can only enter 2 of the 3 categories, Nature Print, Nature Open or Nature Authenticated Wildlife.

·         Invitational:  Entry Forms are on the Website.  Judging will be March 4th at Pontiac.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Bolio, GDCCC Secretary
