Officer's Report:

§         Secretary: The minutes from the February 1, 2001 meeting were reviewed and approved.

§         Treasurer: The Financial Report dated March 12, 2001 was reviewed and approved.

Director's Reports:

§         Print (including Digital): There have been no competitions yet this year. The first competition will be March 26 at Photo Guild.

§         Color Slide: No report. The next competitions will be Tuesday, March 13 at Avon and Tuesday, April 3 at Windsor.

§         Nature Slide: The next competition will be March 15 at Pontiac Photographic Society (Note: Meeting is in Room F).

§         2¼ Slide: The next competitions will be Tuesday, March 13 at Avon and Tuesday, April 3 at Windsor.

§         Digital Slides: The next competitions will be Tuesday, March 13 at Avon and Tuesday, April 3 at Windsor.

§         Newsletter: The February issue containing year-end photos was sent out last week. John submitted a proposal to produce 6 issues per year (5 black and white, 1 year-end issue in color) including printing, compiling and mailing for the current $6/issue subscription fee if we can reduce the number of complimentary issues or have council pay for them. We have 72 paid subscriptions and 25 complimentary for 2001. Since the past practice of giving free copies to honorary members, club presidents and officers was established only to meet the 200 bulk mailing requirement and we now pay first class mail, those can be reduced. It was moved and seconded to include only the 4 honorary members and PSA copies as complimentary. Directors and presidents will get the newsletter off the web site for a one-year trial. Motion carried. The PSA Newsletter competition may be being handled by someone new, but until we receive notice of a new contact person, we will continue to send to Margaret Estes.

There was discussion about charging a fee for advertising non-GDCCC activities or businesses. When 225 issues were mailed, prices were $25 for 1/4 page, $50 for half, $75 for full. Even though subscription numbers are down to 72 members, the actual contact level of the newsletter is still high due to web site hits. A motion was made and seconded to charge the above rates for advertising per issue with a discount of "buy five, get one free" for long term ads. Motion carried.

§         Web Site: Year-end results and photos have been posted.

§         Ribbons: Director, please let Art know in advance of competitions if you need ribbons.

2001 International Salon:

§         Entry forms have been mailed to foreign competitors. Others are ready to go. The PSA Web Site does not list our salon information. Bill will contact Wade about making the correction.

Color Slide Invitational:

§         The Color Slide Invitational made money this year. Ribbons, trophies, etc. are ready for distribution. Pat did a nice job for Photo Guild. John has the winners to put on the web. Next year is hosted by Pontiac.

Old Business:

§         Darrell Gulin: Judy submitted a contract for Bill to sign specifying our cost for a 2 day seminar to be held May 18 & 19, 2002 at $1500 plus travel, lodging, meals. There will be a minimum of 7 hours per day for the program. The exact nature of the program will be determined by both Darrell and GDCCC. At least one month prior to program, Darrell will notify GDCCC of all necessary equipment to be provided by the council. Doug Locke is looking for a location with seating for at least 200 people, possibly Andover High School. It is essential that council members be involved and help with promotion for the event to be a success. As a courtesy to Adray, we should notify them of our plans. We should also consider adjusting the fee for participants to $50 for one day, $75 for two days. It was moved and seconded to sign contract. Motion carried.

§         Adray Photo Expo: May 18-20, 2001. A coordinator is needed for the Council booth. John Slocum was suggested. Bill will contact him. Presidents are to take word back to clubs that we need club volunteers in 2-4 hour shifts.

§         Council Promotion: Jonathan Warren's suggestion for a council gallery show was approved. Jonathan is to proceed with finding venue.

§         2002 Banquet: Joan Nogas from Livonia addressed questions for next year's banquet with the following answers: The target date of January 26, 2002, is good. While the estimate is 150 people based on 2001 attendees, the room should seat 200. The deposit check is available through Loretta. Ticket printing and design is coordinated with Skip and Loretta. Trophies are handled by the 1st Vice President. Livonia's responsibilities are getting the room, door prizes, 50-50 raffle, personnel to handle the raffle, and food. Easels for displaying prints belong to Windsor and are available for use, can be hauled in a van. There is a $25 flat fee for them. The Print Director and assistants put the prints up on the easels. Council handles the program. Council president sends out the special invitations for honorary members.

New Business:

§         Rod Planck: Fliers are available.

§         Photo Guild seminar: Ken Graff will present "Graffic Illusions" to replace one of the other speakers. His program discusses (through the use of pictures) a computer as an extension to the camera and it's use as a "painting" tool to completely change the look of an original photographic image. More information is included on the handout.

Next meeting: Tuesday, April 24th at 7:30 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 8:53 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Diane Kroll, GDCCC Secretary
