question was raised about fees for individuals who want to advertise
equipment for sale or trade. Fees for advertising are only charged to
businesses. Member notices are included at no charge.
- Web Site:
Access to the statistics on web-site hits has been added. It may also be
possible to determine how many salon entry forms have been downloaded from
the site.
2001 International Salon:
- The 2001 International Salon
will be held Sunday, September 16; however, the room needed for the stereo
division may not be available. If that is the case, the stereo competition
will be held on another date. It was noted that postage rates for foreign
entries have increased by 121%. A club in San Antonio was granted
permission from PSA to delay the return of report cards and non-accepted
slides until the catalog was available and then send them together to
reduce costs. Andy will check with Wade and PSA about GDCCC also obtaining
permission to delay those same items. Jim Inkster and Ron Genaw have
agreed to serve as Color Slide Director and Print Director in the year
2002.
Old Business:
- Darrell Gulin:
The seminar is set for May 18 & 19, 2002. The fee for participants has
not yet been determined but will be set after all the costs have been
analyzed. Judy and Anita have been researching possible sites for the
show. Possible sites include:
- Southfield
Civic Center Parks and Recreation Department, which would include the use
of a permanent screen, meeting room, and kitchen facilities for $400/day.
Their scheduling book for 2002 will not be available until June.
- VanDyke
Place Hotel for $800/day.
- Wayne
State Extension for $300 for Saturday, but a higher rate for Sunday to
pay time and a half for maintenance. Seats only 150.
- MSU
Extension for $970/day.
- Adray
Auditorium - Judy will talk with Gary at Adray's to see if they might
consider sponsoring the seminar and allow the use of the auditorium.
- Bill
Buchanan will also contact Jim Lyons at Kodak about sponsorship.
- Adray Photo Expo:
May 18-20, 2001. John Slocum is not available to coordinate our table this
year. Theresa Syzmanski from Avon agreed to line up volunteers to staff
our table. All club presidents are to urge their members to sign up for a
1 to 2 hour shift. Volunteers may contact Theresa directly at 810-412-1150
or by email at atjmsjaz@aol.com.
Please be sure to put "Adray's Photo Expo" in the subject line.
Jonathan Warren will also help with set up. Judy will arrange to have
Adray's projector at the show.
- Council Promotion: Jonathan
Warren reported that he is looking for a gallery venue to display 100
prints or 2 venues for 50 prints each. Each club would provide 10 prints
to be displayed. Target date is mid-October 2001. Suggestions may be
directed to Jonathan at
jwarren@ppg.com..
New Business:
- Joann Snavley submitted
information about print racks for sale for $10 per section. Since storage
is a problem and racks are available from Windsor no action will be taken.
- Bill Buchanan found a web
site someone is compiling that has extremely out-of-date information about
club officers, meeting dates, etc. It is important that we keep our web
site up-to-date. Please be sure to let John know if (or when) any officer,
meeting dates or place information changes.
- Bill Buchanan brought up
discussion about rules for competition. Council rules state: "An
image that is successful as a Monochrome Print, including
Honorable Mention (HM), becomes ineligible for future Council competition
in the Monochrome Print Division. Monochrome Prints that are so similar to
a successful Monochrome Print by the same maker that a casual observer
would think they are the same print are not allowed and will be
disqualified. An image that is successful as a Color
Print or a Commercial Print or an Electronic Imaging Print, including
Honorable Mention (HM), becomes ineligible for future Council competition
in the Color Print Division, the Commercial Print Division and the
Electronic Imaging Print Division. Color Prints, Commercial Prints and
Electronic Imaging Prints that are so similar to a successful Color Print,
Commercial Print or Electronic Imaging Print by the same maker that a
casual observer would think they are the same print are not allowed and
will be disqualified.." Club directors should be careful to screen
entries submitted for council competition since some club rules may read
or be interpreted differently. In any case, the division director has the
final authority to determine whether or not a print should be
disqualified.
- Next meeting: Tuesday, June 19th at 7:30
p.m. for Board Officers and Directors only.
Meeting adjourned at 9:13 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Kroll, GDCCC Secretary
