Minutes:            GDCCC GENERAL BOARD MEETING

Date:                August 31, 2005

Meeting Place: Moody-Williams Printing Company

The President, Art Thompson, called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.  There were 4 officers, 2 directors and 5 representatives present.

Handouts:

·         Minutes from 05/23//05 GDCCC Board Meeting

·         Rick Sammon Seminar Brochures to pass out to the clubs

Officers’ Report:

·         Secretary: The minutes from the May 23, 2005 meeting were reviewed and approved.

·         Treasurer: No changes

Directors’ Report:

·         Print – Next competition is Wednesday, September 21 at Shutterbug

·         2¼ Slides – Next competition is Thursday, September 22 at West Oakland

·         Color Slide – Next competition is Thursday, September 22 at West Oakland

·         Nature – The next competition will be Wednesday, September 28th at Motor City, instead of Tuesday, September 27.  (The church is not available on the 27th.)

·         Website – The current contract for web hosting with Burlee/Interland ends 09/19/05.  Dennis Sauve wants to move the web site to "Successful".  The board agreed to let Dennis choose where to move the web site to.

·         Salon – This year’s Salon judging will be held on Saturday, September 17th at La Salle Bank (Standard Federal's new name) on Big Beaver in Troy. There's no cafeteria in the building, so we'll have to bring in food for the workers.

Old Business:

·         Photoshop Study Group – It was agreed that we should not buy the CD set, and it was agreed that we should not try to have another session…. It's difficult to schedule a time and place, too few came for the first session, someone needs to provide a projector and laptop computer, and anyone can rent the CDs from PSA if they want to.

·         Mentor ListsWindsor, West Oakland and Motor City have their own lists.  Suggestions included using the web site or a secure chat room.  This item is on hold until after the web site is moved.

·         Virtual Salon (DISSOP) – On hold while Dennis is moving the GDCCC web site to a new web hosting service.

New Business:

·         Rick Sammon Seminar – GDCCC will host a seminar featuring Rick Sammon on 9/24/05.  Website www.ricksammon.com.  He presents on digital photography but is user-friendly, less technical.  He is a working professional photographer, sponsored by Canon, and will have books, CDs and software to sell.

600 brochures were mailed out.  20 people have registered using PayPal, so far.  50 or so have registered through Loretta.  Everything is up-to-date on the timetable.  Brochures need to be distributed at the clubs.  Judy Yaker and Tracy Rilett volunteered to help Anita with registration.

Bill Buchanan sent a Yet-To-Do list (he's in Salt Lake City, Utah at the PSA Conference).  The list was discussed and assignments made.  Questions that came up – Is Bill arranging for food (pastries?) with coffee?  Who is doing tables in the lobby?  Can we come up with more door prizes?  Should we ask participants to fill out a feedback form (Was the seminar OK?  What other speakers would they like to see? etc.)?  Could we provide pencils and pads of paper (maybe include GDCCC and member club info on the pad)?

·         Digital Projection Division (DPD) – Motor City, Photo Guild, Pontiac and West Oakland have all been holding club Digital Projection competitions this year.  The question was raised asking when we could officially start interclub DPD competitions.  Susan K. Browne will chair a committee (Judy Yaker, John Kroll, Joe Sroka) to write up draft rules for creation of a new Digital Projection Division.  We will hold two trial runs (Thursday, September 29 – Hosted by Motor City and held at Motor City and Thursday, November 3 – Hosted by Pontiac but held at Motor City (Motor City has the space – Pontiac doesn’t)).  All of the GDCCC member clubs can submit DPD entries, even if they don't have local club DPD competitions.  If all goes well, the board will be able to vote on the new division and rules at the December meeting so that official DPD competition can start January 1, 2006.

Next Meeting:  Thursday, October 6, 2005

Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Recorded by John Kroll
