MINUTES: GDCCC GENERAL BOARD MEETING
DATE: September 11, 2000
MEETING PLACE: MOODY-WILLIAMS PRINTING COMPANY
The President, Bill Buchanan, called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. There
were 3 officers, 5 directors and 10 delegates present (2 of those 10 delegates
were also officers or directors).
Handouts:
Officer's Report:
- Secretary:
The minutes from the May 18th meeting were reviewed and approved.
- Treasurer:
The Treasurer reported a balance of $3664
Director's Reports:
- Print: The
next competition will be September 20th at Shutterbug.
- Color Slide:
The next competitions will be September 28th at West Oakland
and October 18 at Shutterbug.
- Nature Slide:
The next competition will be September 25th at Motor City.
- 2¼ Slide:
The next competitions will be September 28th at West Oakland,
October 18 at Shutterbug and November 9 at Livonia. The replacement
projector Art brought in last time will not work. We will continue using
the old one.
- Electronic Imaging:
The next competition will be September 25th at Motor City.
There are more prints entered every competition but slide entries are
still low.
- Newsletter:
Since the only news to share was about the International Salon, no issue
was printed in August.
2000 Slide Invitational:
- No new information.
- Next year's Slide
Invitational is to be hosted by The Photo Guild.
Old Business:
- Detroit International
Salon: Many people report they didn't receive entry forms from
the original mailing and had to request them through email. 200 Color
slide entries so far. No ads have been sold for the book.
- Adray Show:
Nothing to report.
- New score box system:
Two are left to be picked up. One belongs to council for print division -
Alex Lane will take it tonight. The other is for Avon. Jim will bring in
payment and pick up the unit at that time.
New Business:
- GDCCC web site: We
own GDCCC.org. Set up cost was $50 for two years. The domain name is now
pointed to that web site. Since free sites were limited to 16 mg, which is
not sufficient for council needs, alternates were researched. Burlee.com
was recommended, with a $12.95/month fee for 1 year sign-up. That cost
plus one year of monthly fees was paid in advance by John Kroll.
Newsletter information will be included in a new format on the web site
and could save the cost of postage for those who have Internet access.
Council News will continue to be printed with a possible reduction in
number printed if members are satisfied to receive it over the net
instead. The web site account also includes 25 email addresses. We need to
decide how to use them, possibly one to each division, president,
record-keeper, etc. John will coordinate web-master duties with Howard and
Judy and will transfer the current main page information to the new site.
The new site includes a page for each club within council with meeting
dates, president and other pertinent information. Additional information
will be included as clubs present it. Future minutes will be posted to the
site. Judy suggested we put in people's wins either for the year or
cumulative on the site as well. Concern was expressed that those records
don't belong in the public domain. There is a possibility of having some
pages require a password that would eliminate some concern. Dennis Sauve
noted that through mapquest.com you can get maps to each club meeting
location and tie it to the web site. John will look into finding number of
hits and other reports once the site is fully operational. Once the site
has been operational for at least a month, the service will send our name
in to 250 search engines.
- PSA Comments: Alex
Lane commented that PSA Conference has only print division, no separation
for how the prints were made. A conversation with the Director of Nature
at PSA hand of man issue allows some judicious use of hand of man - i.e.
Barn swallow in nest in barn, wild peregrine falcon nesting in the city.
Other comments noted that PSA will mark a picture down if the hand of man
is obtrusive. PSA also had two categories: one of nature, one of authenticated
wildlife.
- New officers in
clubs: Windsor's new president is Dennis Sauve. Please send
notices of any officer changes to me at jkroll@bignet.net.
- Notice: Judy
announced that she will no longer take money for membership and do labels
as of January 2000. Nominations for officers and directors at large will
also be needed for (President, First Vice-President and Treasurer and two
directors at large). We will need to discuss this at the October meeting and
hold the election at November meeting.
- Banquet 2001:
Banquet 2001 will be done by Grosse Pointe. Mike Florian reported the
banquet will be held at Macomb Community College on January 20 which
avoids both Martin Luther King Day and the Super Bowl. There are no liquor
sales allowed, so those who desire alcohol bring their own. Tickets are
needed by the November meeting.
- Honors Committee:
The Honors Committee needs to be appointed. Art Thompson will send out
information to the six clubs to get the committee going this year. Duties
listed in the constitution were reviewed.
- Honors: Bob
Hart was presented with the Styvesent Peabody Award at PSA. Andy Wims is
chairman of awards committee and presented the award at opening
ceremonies. Bill Buchanan accepted the chairmanship of the PSA nominating
committee.
- Announcements: The
PSA Bulletin contest has been cancelled for this year due to Margaret's
serious illness. She is recovering and was awarded Honorary PSA. Kenny
Rhee from Grosse Pointe Camera Club suffered a stroke in late June and is
no longer able to compete. Note: when something serious happens to a club
member, be sure to let John or someone know so the news can be shared and
cards sent.
Next two meetings:
- Tuesday, October 24th
at 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 29th
at 7:30 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Kroll, GDCCC Secretary
