Old Business:

·         Study Group for Photoshop  - Judy Yaker has secured Saturday, 10/9 as the next date for the study group to meet at Camera Mart.  It is being reviewed to see about possibility of scheduling the group every 2 weeks.  A good book, “Photoshop for Photographers”, was also mentioned.

·         Historian: Joanne Snavely & Art Thompson will be meeting with John Kroll to get our Historical archiving project underway.  Anyone interested in helping should contact Joanne.  Secretary Kathy Bolio to turn over minutes and information from previous years to historians.

·         Updated Membership lists –Due to a computer crash, many of the membership lists previously emailed were lost. Could you please resend your lists to Kathy Bolio at wbolio@bignet.net or bring a hard copy to the October GDCCC meeting.

·         International Salon – Nature Slide competition will be held Saturday, September 18 at Camera Mart.  Other divisions will be judged Sunday, September 19 at Oakwood Hospital.  Entries in all divisions are down this year possibly due to postal rates.

·         Virtual Salon – Dennis Sauvé has reviewed the software and feels it is very specific to a certain salon and not easily adapted for what we would need.  Dennis has worked on developing a program through Microsoft Access®.  He is working on database setup and will determine if possible to include more security information.  He is setting the program up so the components will build the database as people send in entries.  The project is currently about 50% complete and should be a more customizable solution than the original software.  Current software does include options for rejecting improper entry files and generating a rejection email.  The software also allows entrants to check the status of their entry as well. We are looking to setup traditional PSA divisions: General Color, General B&W, Creative Color, & Creative B&W.  GDCCC will need to conform to PSA conventions as many people enter to gain points for PSA standing.  We need to determine what award levels will be presented.  There is a possibility that we will be able to host a virtual salon in February 2006.  Recommendations have been made to constrain images to 576 x 768.  Pricing needs to be determined.  Dennis felt he could have a working model for testing by next meeting.

New Business:

·         Year-End Banquet – Pontiac will host the banquet this year.  It will be held at Mama Mia’s on Plymouth Rd. near Inkster on Saturday, January 22, 2005.  Prints will be displayed as in previous years due to new print racks purchased by the council through Art Thompson.  Menu is expected to include appetizers, dinner, cash bar, etc.  Letters need to be sent out to sponsors and guests of honor.

·         Photojournalism Course – The council received an email from Amy Leang at the Detroit Free Press requesting a sponsorship donation to help offset the costs of a seminar “The Flying Short Course” featuring (two National Geographic shooters) Maggie Steber and Lauren Greenfied, (two Pulitzer winners) David Leeson and Cheryl Diaz Meyer and NPPA Community Award photographer Chris Curry.  Event will be held Saturday & Sunday, October 23rd & 24th at the Holiday Inn in Southgate, MI.  Due to other projects, council has declined to participate at this time.

·         Digital “Guru” Tim Grey – The council has been discussing the possibility of hosting a 2-day seminar with Tim Grey.  He has been associated with George Lepp and is mainly responsible for teaching George the digital side of the business.  Tim has published several books and his website www.timgrey.com hosts a digital question and answer column that is available by email.  Council members are asked to check their clubs for interest in attending the seminar.  Judy Yaker will check on type of handouts available and we will explore sponsorship possibilities with Adobe.  We will decide at next meeting.

·         Digital Competitions – Several clubs are now hosting digital competitions – Before we start having interclub competitions, we will need to determine a standard for entries.

·         Honor Nominations – 2nd VP needs to send out requests for honor nominations for this year.

·         Office Nominations – Nominations are needed for several offices including President , 1st VP,  Director at Large and possibly 2nd VP.
