Minutes:            GDCCC GENERAL BOARD MEETING

Date:                October 6, 2005

Meeting Place: Moody-Williams Printing Company

The President, Art Thompson, called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.  There were 5 officers, 2 directors and 9 representatives present.

Handouts:

·         Minutes from 08/31//05 GDCCC Board Meeting

Officers’ Report:

·         Secretary: The minutes from the August 31, 2005 meeting were reviewed and approved with one change – the PSA Conference was in Utah, not Las Vegas.

·         Treasurer: Only some of the Salon and Pay Pal money has been deposited to the council’s account.  There were 3 people who couldn’t attend the seminar because they were sick.  It was recommended and approved that we send back the fee they each paid.

Directors’ Report:

·         Prints – Next competition is Monday, November 7th at Pontiac.  Bring the end-of-year entries, too.

·         2¼ Slides – The September 22nd competition at West Oakland only had 12 slides.  Next competition is Monday, October 24th at Photo Guild.

·         Color Slide – Next competition is Monday, October 24th at Photo Guild.

·         Nature Slide – Next competition will be Thursday, October 27th at Livonia.  Skip won’t be able to attend because West Oakland has a meeting that night.  The November 17th competition will be at Motor City and judged by Oakwood, due to Avon closing down.

·         Website – Dennis Sauve has moved the GDCCC web site to "Successful Hosting".  Cost was $166 for 2 years.  Now he will “jazz it up” and get the Virtual Salon working.

Old Business:

·         Mentor ListsWas the original intent to have a Mentor List for the general public or just members?  Would something like PSA’s online “Forum” be OK?  Bill Buchanan will contact Dennis Gershack (PSA) to see how PSA EID is set up and let Dennis Sauve know so that Dennis can see if the same is possible on the GDCCC web site.

·         Digital Projection committee – Issues exist about image size (1024 vs 768 max), resolution and file sizes.  The maximum horizontal and vertical size set by the DPD committee is 768 pixels.  Art Thompson and Bill Buchanan stated that PSA standards are 1024 max for horizontal images and 768 max for vertical images.  Bill assured us that the larger size for PSA horizontal images really isn’t unfair….  West Oakland has a current max size of 683 pixels for both horizontal and vertical images.  John Kroll recommended that the council board view the different sizes and resolutions in question at the next test competition.  The next test competition will be November 3rd at Motor City with PPS providing judges.  If the new Digital Projection Division is approved, GDCCC will need to purchase a laptop computer, a digital projector, projection software and calibration software.  The DPD committee will research Digital Projectors, laptops, projection software and calibration software, and will ask the clubs for their input concerning pros, cons and costs for each based on their experiences and research.

New Business:

·         Susan Browne proposed that GDCCC add a new division called DPD (Digital Projection Division).  Dennis Sauve seconded.  The board will vote at the next meeting.

·         The Honors Committee needs to meet.

·         The officer positions that are up for election this year are 2nd VP, Secretary and the 2 Directors-at-Large.

·         Judy Yaker proposed that GDCCC eliminate matting of competition prints.  Only the 16x20 backboard is to be allowed.  Susan Browne seconded.  The motion passed and should take effect January 1, 2006.

Next Meeting:  Tuesday, November 8th

Meeting adjourned at 8:53p.m.
