- Print: Alex
Lane has resigned as print director. Judy Yaker and John Kroll are

Division for the International Salon. Please consider helping in one of
these capacities. The next competition will be November 20th at

that competition.

a separate category since competition has been light. It was noted that
other divisions also started slowly and that digital slides are becoming
more affordable. Discussion followed about when to begin giving year end
awards for the category. A motion was made and supported to purchase a
rotating trophy for Digital Slide of the Year with ribbons for 1st,
2nd, 3rd and HM. Motion carried. John Kroll will
donate the trophy. Electronic Imaging Directors should bring their

- Newsletter: The
next issue was dropped off for printing last night with a new format that
will make it easier to duplicate to the web without retyping. Deadline for
items for the following issue is November 29.
Old Business:
- Banquet
2001: The banquet will be held at Macomb Community
College on January 20th. We will need information included in
the next newsletter and on the web site. There has been a change in plans
since the last council meeting. Since current laws do not allow us to run
our Banquet as a BYO liquor event as suggested at our last board meeting,
there will be no alcohol at the banquet. Bill Buchanan will contact Mike
Florian to make sure VIPs receive invitations. It was also suggested that
maps to the banquet location be included on the tickets like last year.
- Honors
Committee: Clubs serving on the Honors Committee are
Livonia, Shutterbug, Windsor, West Oakland, Avon and Grosse Pointe.
Delegates are to be appointed by the individual club president and should
be the president, a Fellow or an Associate of GDCCC. Nominations are due
by November 14th. The vote will take place following the
November 29th Council meeting.
- GDCCC
web site: The web site is up and running at www.gdccc.org. Bill will send the new
information to PSA so they can update our link. The text portion of The
International Salon catalog is on the web site as a PDF file. Judy is
working to have the Salon photos available on the site soon. A suggestion
was made to check on including a setting that would allow visitors to the
site to download in text format, if desired. Interclub competition results
are usually posted to the site within a few days following the
competition.
New Business:
- 2001
Competition Dates: Bill Buchanan will contact
Doug Locke (2nd Vice-President) about next year's competition
dates. Those dates will have to be finalized at the November 29th
meeting.
- 2001
Slide Invitational: The Photo Guild is
responsible to select the date and inform the council.
- 67th
International Salon: Andy Wims report is as
follows:
"The 67th International Salon
is near completion. As always, there are many people to thank for the success
of the event: to name some, Bob Hart for his coaching and pictures of the medal
winners; Judy Yaker for preparing the entry forms, making a copy of the form
available on the computer and typing the catalog; the division chairmen, Ron
Genaw, Jim Inkster and Douglas Locke including the judges; Loretta Williams and
Skip Moody for many tasks including preparation and printing of all the Salon
materials; Joann Snavely for the facility arrangements and many other persons
listed in the salon catalog. By November 18th, the slides and prints
will have been exhibited and returned.
The catalogs, medals and HM
ribbons should be mailed by the same date. The trophies and medals have not yet
been returned. The trophies are not ordered or the medals prepared until after
an order goes in, which is usually after the competition.
It's the Board's decision to make, but I am willing
to serve one more year. Two of our division chairmen have agreed to serve
again, Jim (color slides) and Doug (nature slides and nature prints). We may
need a replacement for Ron who has performed in his job admirably for many
years. The chairmen and I will decide together on the selection panel and
exhibition sites. The selection date was Sunday, September the 24th.
The possible dates next year could be Saturday or Sunday September 22nd
or 23rd. In the future, we should make the necessary arrangements
for trophies to be purchased before the competition."
(Note: The Board agreed to let Andy serve again next
year without reservation!)
