2001 International Salon:
• We won't know the final cost of the salon until the balance of the prints and slides are returned to makers this week. We will have to consider increasing fees at least for foreign entries next year to cover increased mailing costs. The date for next year's salon has not yet been determined. There was some discussion about holding the judging either September 19 or 26 or moving the competition to November 10 with materials returned around January 6. Changing the date to November would make showing the winners at clubs more difficult, making the September dates preferable. The actual date has yet to be set. Jim Inkster has agreed to serve as Color Slide Director; Bill Glaspie as Nature Slide Director. The Print Director has not yet been named.
• Darrell Gulin: The seminar is set for May 18 & 19, 2002 at the Southfield Civic Center. Kodak may be giving film, Popular Photography will be a sponsor and there may be a Canon rep available. A preview announcement flyer has been printed and is available for distribution. The formal brochure will be available by the end-of-year banquet. We can also promote the seminar at the Adray show, which will be held in early May. It was suggested that Darrell's ESPN2 Canon Photo Safari program be edited to be shown at the Adray show and that a slide be made up for clubs to use at each slide competition telling the date, time, etc. This slide could also be sent to other Michigan photo clubs. Information will be sent to the Howell Nature Center for distribution at their shoots. The Howell Nature Center mailing list has also been requested. Information will be added to both the council and PSA web sites.
Old Business:
• 2002 Banquet: Livonia is hosting the banquet to be held January 26, 2002 at Corsi Banquet Hall, 27910 W. 7 Mile Road, Livonia. Ticket prices have yet to be determined but will need to cover $14.95 meal cost, plus gratuity, ticket printing and other fees. Tickets should be available by the next council meeting. A committee (Loretta Williams: chair, Mike Florian and Paula Serra) has been appointed to compile a list of banquet responsibilities. Avon will send a list of suggested donors for door prizes.
• Honors Committee: The committee will vote following the next council meeting. Voting representatives from Livonia, Shutterbug, West Oakland, Windsor, Avon and Grosse Pointe must be a club president, a GDCCC associate or fellow.
• Year End Trophies: Turn in your year end trophies at the final 2001 competition.
• Current Addresses: Thank you for turning in your club member lists including email addresses if available. If you haven't turned in your list, please email them to Diane at Jkroll@bignet.net.
• Proposed Rule Changes: Voting for proposed rule changes was held. Each proposal was moved and seconded before voting. Changes for approved proposals are effective January 2002.
1. Change size limits on digital and commercial prints to 16" x 20" maximum to match current color print sizes. Carried
2. Keep print viewing distance the same for all size prints (8' distance for all). Judges would still be free to move closer to examine any print. This would eliminate having to separate prints into size categories within division. Carried
3. Allow only mounting of prints, no matting. This would greatly reduce the weight for those responsible for transporting to and from competitions (especially end of year). Rejected
4. Combine color, commercial and digital prints into one division to be called "Color Print." Monochrome print would remain a separate division. Rejected
5. Combine digital slides with color slides. There are very few digital slides being entered. Carried
• Nomination of Officers: Nominations were: Second Vice President: Mike Florian; Secretary: none; Director-at-Large: Joanne Snavely, Jim Paszkiewicz. There must be a nomination for secretary by next meeting.
