Tentative 2008 Competition Schedule: There are several dates that need to be
cleared up before a final schedule is emailed to everyone.
-
-
PPS will plan to host a CS/NS competition on Monday,
February 25th.
-
-
PPS will plan to host the final print competition on
11/03/08 and the EOY competition on 11/05/08.
(11/04/08 is voting day…)
·
DISP:
-
Ron has been having a problem getting recognition
for the Print Division.
-
NOTE: Ron will be PSA Pictorial Print Director for 2008.
-
Question: Should 2008 be our last DISP?
o
We’re having problems getting workers and judges,
and there are few NS/CS entries.
o
Ron needs to know by ~May.
o
We’ll plan to ask during the banquet and see if we
can get apprentices for 2008 that would then take over as directors for 2009.
·
EOY Banquet:
-
A head count needs to be provided to
-
The web site has been updated with the banquet
information and a map.
-
The banquet program needs to be typed up….
-
We’ll try to change the 50/50 drawing to a 50/30/20
or 50/25/15/10 drawing in order to have multiple winners.
-
Windsor stated that they were not planning to have
door prizes, since it’s hard to beg camera shops for donations when everyone
now buys through the web… but a few suggestions were made for door prizes from
Photo Guild (for their annual spring seminar) and Howell Nature Center (photo
shoots) and Hunt’s Camera (web site) and Monte Nagler.
·
Honors Awards for 2007 need to be voted on
tonight. Reps from
·
Digital PSA Salon:
-
Our Digital PSA Salon will not happen in April
2008. Dennis was sick and then on
vacation in December, so there’s not enough time to finish getting ready for it
this year.
-
Mike Lillis (PSA DP Director) said that we don’t
qualify for medals this year because this is a “new” salon (1st
year). There was some concern because
the Great Lakes Salon (sponsored by Photo Guild) was approved for PSA medals
their first year…
-
Discussion about adding Digital to the September
Salon was tabled until the next Board meeting.
·
Officer nominations were approved:
-
2nd VP – Anita Weiner
-
Secretary – John Kroll was approved as the
“Recording Secretary”. Any other
secretarial duties will be handled by volunteers as needed.
-
Director-at-Large – Larry Diggs
-
Director-at-Large – Bill Buchanan
New
Business:
·
Joann asked about consolidation of some of the
divisions and categories in order to reduce the number of winners and
ribbons. There was some discussion, but
it was agreed that it’s too late to consider changes for 2008, so we’ll plan to
reopen the discussions by May 2008 for possible implementation in 2009.
-
Slides:
o
Maybe combine Beginner, Advanced and Salon, and
combine Star and Galaxy
o
Or maybe leave Beginner and Galaxy alone and combine
Advanced, Salon and Star
o
Or maybe set a 40% maximum for awards and have the
judges vote on run-offs as needed
-
DP:
o
Currently, “digital” slides can be entered in the
Color Slide Division. Should that rule
be changed in order to try to prevent digital images from being entered as
color slides? (It was agreed that this
would probably be impossible to police…)
o
Should the digital CG entries and Color Slides be
judged together?
o
Should the digital NA entries and Nature Slides be
judged together?
·
Question: Can GDCCC clubs or members who don’t
participate in a division be asked to be EOY judges?
-
The current GDCCC rules say ”No”.
-
Anita moved (and Judy seconded) that the current wording be changed as
follows:
The
current wording for end-of-year judging for all divisions is:
"None of these judges will be members of the affiliated clubs in the GDCCC Council.”
The proposed new wording is:
"None
of these judges will be actively participating in the division being judged."
-
The
intent of the proposed wording change is to be able to use qualified judges for
end-of-year from the GDCCC affiliated clubs who do not have entries in the
division they are being asked to judge for.
-
Mike will send out the motion’s wording
this week in an email to all of the board members and ask for an immediate
vote. This should allow Dennis to ask
GDCCC members to judge the digital EOY for 2007 if he can’t get enough
non-member judges.
Next meeting: Wednesday, February 20, 2008 (at Judy Yaker’s
home).
Meeting
adjourned at 9:39 pm.
